Looking For The Light, Hello 2021

Happy New Year, I hope your 2021 is beautiful.

In a year of darkness

I look for the light

Glowing embers

From a fire

Robbed by the night

These embers now beacons

In a year of stolen delight

And they are everywhere

Like seeds under the scorched earth

After a forest fire

The promise of life, cure for the curse

Proof that there is

No darkness great enough

To defeat joy, oh so tough

So, I look for the light

The shining jewels

That dazzle

Even in this 2020 night

And I see them

A star studded sky

Of hope that refuses to die

In the eyes of friends

Who have a magic

That makes dark times

Shrivel and end

In the voices of family

Who sparkle

Even when compressed into 2D

It radiates from communities

Their actions

And unsinkable positivity

Lives on in masterpieces

Sonic, linguistic, visual and culinary

That shout of people's

Magnificent artistry

This light is fed

By a new height of gratitude

That celebrates true value

In a year so cruel and subdued

Fueling a spirit of defiance

That refuses to give in

That most human triumph

On the horizon

A ribbon forms

A photon promise

That soon comes

A new dawn

Our lights long kept warm

Again able to joyously swarm

As we say goodbye

To darkness

And welcome a whole

New wave of possibility

We embrace

Stronger now

For all we have faced

Hello 2021

You are the dream

We have long chased

I will celebrate you

With every smile

On my face
