Champion of the Night

The new year is here, the new decade! I was very lucky to see my first shooting star New Years morning, creating the perfect moment for a little thought and reflection. Happy new year, have an amazing year and decade!

Shooting star
Oh racing light
Silent champion
Of the night

How far did you fly
To cross my gaze
Was it an accident?
Or did you try?

You vanished so fast
A creature of the present
No future, no past
There are so many things I'd have asked

Have you met others
Who saw you and knew?
From what origin
Did you find wings and flew?

What do you know
Of the very beginning?
Is there another place
Where humanity's future can flow?

But gone too fast
Barely a thought
Had I cast
So mesmerised by your beauty

Your sight akin to a kiss
All I can do
Is make a wish
Asking for peace and bliss
